This photo is labeled "This could be Uncle Henry's Uncle Henry Herrman and his wife in their store" - so the actual relationship is unclear. Many of this generation were shopkeepers, operating their own local businesses.
Adam Wachenheim was a butcher, owning his own local shop.

This photo from Wikipedia, showing how some German-Americans assimilated. It seemed appropriate in this setting, although the Wachenheims and Herrmanns, living in a "Germantown" setting in Quincy, kept their original names.
