Candid shots. These would have been taken with a Kodak Brownie - whcih resulted in the "snapshot". Kodak brownies were introduced in 1900 by the company founded by George Eastman (The Bill Gates of his time).
The first shot is Lawrence Wachenheim Sr. With his sister Alice. The timing would be shortly after his return from the Phillipines, 1907.
The second shot is with his sister Rose.I can imagine them handing the camera back and forth to take these photos.
