
Here he is as a young man. This was around 1906, so he would have been about 18. Other somewhere in the Phillipines, I don't know the specific location or the staging of the photos.

I should learn more about the war. Technically, the Phillipine-American War at this time. The war occurred in the late 1890s to early 1900s, with some fighting until about 1913. It started as the Spanish-American war, but after Spain pulled out of the Phillipines this became the Phillipine-American war. According to Wikipedia (quited here with link as above), "During the war 4,324 American soldiers died, only 1,000-1,500 of which were due to actual combat; the remainder died of disease. 2,818 were wounded. There were also 2,000 casualties that the Philippine Constabulary suffered during the war, over a thousand of which were fatalities. Philippine military deaths are estimated at 20,000 with 16,000 actually counted, while civilian deaths numbered between 250,000 and 1,000,000 Filipinos. " I wonder if we can draw some parallels to the American war in Iraq?
